By Anthony Hughes

As a matter of fact, aging can affect the ability of the seniors to move safely around their home, as well as their community. For this reason, walkers play an important role in easing their movement. However, walkers for the elderly are available in different styles, where some have wheels and others do not have wheels. Since they are designed for different and specific purposes, you may consider a Walker with big wheels for excellent mobility.

Usually, the seniors may suffer from decreased balance, strength, vision, and other issues which can affect their ability to walk safely. But since the level of assistance and the needed support varies, there are also different types of walkers for the seniors. For instance, hemi-walkers are designed for seniors who have been fully or partially paralyzed on one side. These types of walkers are a one hand use. It is commonly used by elderly who have stroke on one side or those who have a surgery or fracture to their wrist, arm, collarbone or shoulder.

The other type is a folding walker which is the simplest type that an elderly person can use. These usually come with two handles and four legs but without wheels. In addition, their height can be adjusted apart from also being folded into half. Such walkers remain ideal for use by person who need to exert more weight on walkers, for instance those who are unable put much weight to a single or both legs subsequent to knee surgeries and hip replacements.

The other type is front wheel walkers that are as well termed as two-wheel walkers. Such walkers that are meant for the aged are alike other typical walkers only that they have skids on their hind legs and wheels on their front legs. The will, therefore, slide easily.

The two wheel walkers are similar to the folding walkers and can be folded in half. This particular type is more ideal for the elderly who want to place some but not all weight on the walker. This type is also light weight, can be transported easily, and also slides on the floor. However, they are usually not ideal for the elderly who want to put so much weight on a walker.

Other types are the rollators also termed as the four-wheeled walkers. Usually, they have 4 wheels, one basket, brakes, as well as a seat. Additionally, they remain suited for outdoor as well as indoor use with those that possess big wheels being preferable for use outside the house since they will roll easily even on bumpy grounds.

The rollators are usually ideal for the seniors who want a walker for balance purposes. This type is also beneficial for the elderly who want a seat to rest, carry some items, and who need security when walking since you can hold on them.

Another type is the 3 wheel walker which is similar to a rollator but has one less wheel and without a seat. They are also stable for both indoor and outdoor although they are not stable like the rollators due to the one less wheel. They are usually ideal for elderly with strength, balance, and endurance issue but who do not require the extra stability from other types of walkers like the rollators.
